Kedartal lies at 15,500 feet and is among the most mesmerizing glacial lakes in the world. The melting snow from Bhrighupanth and Thalaysagar peaks feed this lake, whereas, peaks such as Mt.Meru, Bhagirathi, Manda, and Gangotri are all in the vicinity. The landscapes of the higher Himalayas are barren, but the lake renders life to the entire landscape.
This Kedartal trek is in the beautiful land of Uttarakhand. The difficulty level for the trek is moderate to difficult and one should spend some moments contemplating if one intends to go for this trek. Consulting one’s doctor before going ahead with the trek is a recommendable practice. The trek lasts for 7 days and with your contingent, you'd trek for around 37 kilometers during this duration. Kedartal trek takes one to a maximum altitude of 15,500 feet. On the trek, you’d come across a rocky path right from day 1. While the path is steep and dusty, there may be some boulders on the way. On the very first day of the trek, one ascends at a path inclined at 60 degrees. But one gets to experience lush green meadows of seasonal wildflowers and mesmerizing streams of water along the way.
The Gangotri Vasuki Tal trek gets underway from Gangotri, and on day 1, one drives down from Dehradun to Gangotri. If you book transportation with us, we’d collect you from ISBT Dehradun/Railway Station at 6 AM. Else, you could book your own transportation and reach down to Gangotri. We’d have your overnight stay is booked in a guest house. The drive from Dehradun to Gangotri is an absolute marvel. It passes via Uttarkashi and Harsil. Tourist spots on either side of the road are a feast for the eyes. You may even choose to halt for a few moments to see the beautiful town of Harsil.
The second day is reserved for acclimatization to the Gangotri’s climate and get some much called-for rest. This helps one trek better and stays comfortable. The day will typically involve some gentle trails down the forest with your guide and contingent. Sessions for briefing and introduction will also be involved. A tourist may then choose to visit the holy temples and secret caves at Gangotri.
The third day is the one when one actually treads the trekking path, and getting up early is recommendable. The trail you'd cover will be 8-9 km long. The path will be rocky for the major part, but it’s the only way to get to Bhoj Kharak. With your team, you’d observe that towards your right is Kedar Ganga, a destination abundant with Bhojapatra trees, the first writing material known to mankind. Spider Wall shows in the later section of the trail and is a rock face inclined at 60 degrees. The path is narrow and leads to Bhoj Kharak. The mesmerizing campsite is abundant with rhododendrons and Bhoj trees, the best destination to rest for the day. The views of Thalaysagar from over here are mesmerizing. Visibility of the Kedartal has now begun, and a trekker can trace the path that lies ahead of him in the trek. It’s quite an experience.
Even as the day 4 trail is shorter than the day 3 trail, it initiates with a steep climb. The treelines on the lower altitudes will vanish and make way for blossomed meadows in the colors of the spring. A few steep up and down will be involved but will make the trek pleasant. This section is a zoology fanatic's delight. One gets to see the blue sheep alongside varieties of rare birds.
One then crosses the river Kedar Ganga and gets to the campsite. Alongside the sights of Bhriguhupanth peak, this destination offers views of one of the best sunsets in the world.
It is on this day that we will be able to set our eyes on the dreamy emerald lake. But, the trek on day 5 is challenging as well. One crosses 3 ridges to get here, and the path is rocky. Around these parts, the weather has a knack of taking one by surprise, and sticking to the schedule is recommended. Towards the end of the trail, a steep ridge is arrived at wherein cairns mark the path. Towards the top of the ridge is the beautiful Kedartal. One gets there after descending to the lake for the very last time. In the lake would be a flawless reflection of Thalaysagar. Tourists invariably have a great time at Kedartal, as they get all set to follow back the path they have traced, to Kedarkharak.
One wakes up at mystic Kedartal and gets all set to go home. The journey back to Gangotri begins.
We’ll return to Dehradun today and have accomplished our trek successfully. After breakfast, you may choose to checkout and we’ll drive you down to Dehradun, a journey full of mesmerizing sights. Within 8-9 hours, you’d reach Dehradun station. You are likely to have prior bookings made earlier, which is the recommendable way to go about it. Or, you may make the bookings over your smartphone while in transit. Else, 2-3 hours of waiting times are the norm.

Dehradun is very well-connected to the important Cities in Uttarakhand (Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Uttarkashi), Chandigarh (150 km), Delhi (Kashmere Gate ISBT-250 km), and Ambala (140 km) by means of state-run and private buses at a reasonable cost. It is advisable to choose Volvo buses over ordinary buses, to ensure a more comfortable journey in the mountainous terrain.
Note: - The bus journey from Delhi to Dehradun takes 7 to 8 hrs for 250 km and it is advisable to book your tickets around 9-10 pm in the night to reach early in the morning for your treks and to avoid delays.
Dehradun Railway station is one of the biggest and busiest railheads of Uttarakhand after Haridwar. Dehradun Railway Station is connected to all major cities of the country like New Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ajmer, Mumbai, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai, circuitously. The railway station is located at the heart of the city which is 2 km away from ISBT and the City Centre. Cabs, auto, sharing rickshaws are easily accessible for exploring all parts of the city. Besides the railway station, there is Dehradun Hill Bus stand which offers regular services to Mussoorie and Dhanolti.
The nearest airport is at Jolly Grant, located approximately 22 km away from Dehradun City Centre. Domestic flights connect Dehradun with Delhi, Chandigarh, Banglore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Once you reach the airport, you can take prepaid taxis outside the airport which can be availed to get transferred to the main city of Dehradun and it has easy access to the holy towns of Rishikesh (25km) and Haridwar (32 km).
